Saladin ( Salah al-Din ) was a Muslim military leader and sultan who founded the Ayyubid dynasty. Born in 1137, he is best known for his leadership during the Crusades and his recapture of Jerusalem from the Crusaders. Saladin’s reputation for chivalry and fairness made him a respected figure in both the Muslim and Christian worlds.
